If you’re planning a Destin maternity photography session then this guide is for you! It’s no secret that the Emerald Coast boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the country, but this region definitely comes with it’s own challenges as well. Let’s get into a few ways to prep for your Destin maternity photography session.
1. Timing is Everything:
- Golden Hour: I’m always going to try to schedule my sessions for golden hour, which is the hour right before sunset or the hour right after sunrise. Sometimes if we’re going for a different look or location I may break this rule but for the most part we’re going to stick to this pretty religiously.
- Weather Watch: Weather here in Destin changes frequently and quickly. Even if it’s raining the day of your session there’s a good chance it’ll clear up before sunset. I’ll watch the radar and let your know if we have to adjust our location or start time. Try not to worry! I very rarely have to reschedule sessions.
2. Comfort is Key:
- Choose the Right Outfit:
- Flowing maxi dresses are a classic choice. I’m always going to love a long skirt flowing with the waves.
- Consider a two-piece set that accentuates your curves.
- Opt for light, breathable fabrics like cotton or linen.
- Bring a few options to mix and match.
- 99% of my sessions are barefoot. If you prefer to wear shoes definitely skip the heels and go for a delicate sandal. Boots and laceup shoes tend to look a bit awkward in a beach setting.
- Think neutral/earth toned colors! White, beige, brown, sage, denim blue, etc. are all excellent options. For more ideas check out my color palette Pinterest board!
3. Embrace the Elements:
- Hydrate: Bring plenty of water to stay hydrated, especially on a hot day.
- Sun Protection: Pack sunscreen with a high SPF, a hat, and sunglasses to protect your skin. This is especially important in the days leading up to your session to avoid bathing suit and sunglasses tan lines! The sun reflects on the white sand here in Destin which can make burns soooo much worse.
- Baby Essentials: If your little one is joining the session, bring along any necessary items like diapers, wipes, and a change of clothes. Snacks and a water bottle are also a great idea – and of course if your little one needs a break to nurse or blow off steam we’ll give them the time they need.
I certainly hope this helps you prep for your Destin Maternity Photography Session. Always remember that you can reach out to me at any time with questions or concerns. If you’re ready to book click here and let’s do this thing!
